Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Academic Publishing

Purpose: The Axis Journal of Scientific Innovations (AJSI) acknowledges the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a tool for scientific research and writing. This policy establishes clear ethical guidelines for the responsible use of AI technologies throughout the manuscript submission, peer review, and publication process.

Scope: This policy applies to all uses of AI tools—including large language models (LLMs), machine learning algorithms, and automated data analysis systems—by authors, reviewers, and editors involved with AJSI.

Policy Details:

1. Authorship and Accountability

  • Non-Authorship of AI: AI tools and language models cannot be listed as an author on a manuscript. Authorship requires accountability for the work, which an AI system cannot assume.

  • Human Responsibility: The human authors are solely and entirely responsible for the entire content of their manuscript, including any portions generated or refined with AI assistance. This encompasses the accuracy of data, integrity of analysis, and absence of plagiarism.

2. Transparency and Disclosure

  • Author Disclosure: Authors must transparently disclose in their cover letter and within a dedicated section of the manuscript (e.g., Methods or Acknowledgements) the use of any AI tools. This disclosure must specify the tool used and describe its role in the research process (e.g., for literature synthesis, data analysis, or language editing).

  • Reviewer and Editor Disclosure: Reviewers and editors must declare if they have used AI tools to assist in their evaluation of a manuscript. The final interpretation and decision must remain their own.

3. Ethical and Quality Assurance

  • Bias and Integrity: Authors must verify that the use of AI has not introduced biases, factual inaccuracies, or fabricated content. All claims must be supported by evidence and validated by the authors.

  • Plagiarism Screening Policy: The Axis Journal of Scientific Innovations screens all submitted manuscripts for plagiarism prior to peer review using professional plagiarism detection software (e.g., Turnitin / iThenticate). Manuscripts found to contain significant plagiarism, redundant publication, or unethical use of AI-generated content will be rejected outright or returned to authors for correction, depending on severity. The journal follows COPE guidelines in handling suspected cases of plagiarism and academic misconduct.

  • Data Privacy: The use of AI tools must comply with all relevant data protection regulations. Confidential, unpublished data or personal information must not be entered into public AI systems.

4. Implementation and Enforcement

  • Compliance: Adherence to this policy is mandatory. Non-compliance, including a failure to disclose significant AI use, will be considered a breach of publication ethics and may lead to manuscript rejection, retraction of a published article, or other corrective actions.

  • Policy Review: This policy will be reviewed annually to adapt to the rapid evolution of AI technologies and their applications in scientific publishing.

By implementing this policy, AJSI aims to harness the benefits of AI for innovation while safeguarding the core principles of academic integrity, transparency, and accountability in scientific research.
